Presidency 2023: I'm running to avoid betraying Nigerians - Yemi Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo stated on Monday that failing to run for president in the 2023 general elections would be a betrayal of Nigeria.

Osinbajo said that aside from his current position, serving as acting president for months has given him the necessary experience to lead Nigeria during a visit to Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

"Every day, many people give their lives for the country. It would be a grave injustice to our country if, with all that has been given to me by God's favor — all the experience — I now retire to Lagos or Ikenne to write my memoir," the Vice President stated.

"Now that the opportunity has presented itself, it would be a betrayal of the country not to accept to serve the country, given my experience, connections, and contacts both locally and globally."

"Without God's blessing, no one can be anything. I express my intention based on the fact that I have been acting president for almost seven months. As acting president, I was given a lot of responsibilities."

On his side, Akeredolu stated that the state delegates adore and respect him, but that God is the one who enthrones.

Since announcing his decision to run for president on April 11, Osinbajo has been touring the country in search of support for his campaign.
